ABOUT MRS. LARSEN:

Welcome! My name is Suzanne Larsen and I will be teaching your child third grade this year. This is my ninth year teaching. I have taught fifth, fourth, second, second grade single-gender girls, and third grade. This will be my third year in third grade. J I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Lander University in 2006, my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Phoenix in 2008, and I will hopefully be finished with my Doctorate in Reading and Literacy from Capella University this June. I have been married for 15 years to Jonathan Larsen. Jonathan is a former Marine and Army soldier who now works at the Lander University Police Department. Jonathan and I have a 13 year old daughter, Gabby, who is in the 8th grade ACTS program at Brewer Middle School. Our family also consists of two pit bulls, a ball python, and a corn snake. Good thing we live in the country! Last but not least, our family owns our own home-based business – J.L. Custom Arms, LLC. We are FFL holders and we teach firearm safety, a love of shooting, self-defense tactics, and Concealed Weapon Permit classes. Check us out – http://www.jlcustomarms.net . The most important thing to know about me is that I LOVE what I do! I love teaching and I love watching students learn. I can’t wait to teach your child this year!

Communication:
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP LINES OF COMMUNICATION OPEN WITH EACH OTHER!
Texting is always the easiest way to get in touch with me. Feel free to text any time.
You can also call at any time – just please realize that I cannot communicate with you (on the school phone or cell phone) while I am with students.
Finally, you can always email me at any time.
If you would like to conference with me, please call or text me and make an appointment. Please realize that this appointment will need to be for a time after 3:00 when all students have gone home. I cannot meet with you in the hallway first thing in the morning as I am monitoring students.

Students: Change the look of your “avatar” making it yours
Parents: Sign up to keep track of how your student is doing each day. You can log in at any time and see just how your child is doing as well as what behaviors they have either received points for or gotten points taken away for.

Your child will be studying the Common Core State Standards for Math, English Language Arts, and Writing. South Carolina State Standards will be used for Science and Social Studies which in third grade is South Carolina History. The most important thing to remember is that THIRD GRADE IS HARDER THAN WHAT YOUR CHILD IS USED TO! Third grade is always a shock to students and their parents not only because of the information needing to be learned, but the amount of information to be learned. Your child is not used to taking in the Science and Social Studies information that is required of third grade. They will need to learn study skills to succeed. Third grade is very fast-paced, so your child will need to study each night to keep up with all the information. If there is ever any questions or concerns, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME! I also keep what we are doing at the time and any helpful information available on my blog that you can go to at any time: http://mrslarsenscoffeebreak.blogspot.com

Other Information:
TIME: Your child needs to be at school by 7:35 to receive breakfast. They are marked as “Tardy” at 7:50.
TRANSPORTATION: If your child is changing their mode of transportation I HAVE TO HAVE A NOTE FROM YOU or I cannot send them home the new way (you can send me a text)
SICK NOTES: If your child is sick, please send a note the next day saying why your child was out, the date, and your signature.
CONFERENCES: If you would like to schedule a conference with me, please arrange the appointment first. You are welcome to come see what your child is doing in class at any time, but I cannot take this time to stop and speak with you as I am supervising children.
